![]() ![]() Overall, while there are a few wins for Logic - in terms of getting stuff done, Ableton feels more intuitive and simple to me.īut for yourself, which do you work quickest with, and which "feels" right to you? This is pretty subjective and you'll only be able to answer by trialling it and seeing which one gets you making music fast and with few drawbacks. ![]() With higher resolution screens, the simplicity of one layout for everything feels more tuned to the way computers work today. I feel like Logic worked better in a world where we had small screens and popups were necessary due to limited screen resolution. ![]() Plug and play is a very viable creative approach.īut what I really like about Ableton is how the bottom row gives you access to all the key controls and then if you need more, clicking in further gives you more control. (And it's also drop-down city at times) To be fair, this might be exactly what you want, because there's not as many tools to tinker with. For example, instrument parameters are shown in a skeumorphic toolbox at the bottom or a popup over your session, sometimes with multiple pages of dials that can feel a bit hidden from view. That said, when I played with Mini Logic (aka: Garageband) I found the layout quite hard to navigate. Multi output instruments and the MIDI editor are also really strong. For sampling, flex pitch is a really great tool that I believe needs work arounds in Ableton to do something similar. You can start with a stock instrument or the drummer feature extremely quickly. There are a few functions within Logic that I really like. Price aside they have more similarities than they used to and so it's very much a YMMV decision. This sounds like a silly or subjective question, but which one makes you feel good? I'm having this exact debate right now, and it's a tough one to decide between.
